About us: PLY Magazine is an independently published quarterly fiber arts magazine focused on spinning. We provide education and inspire our readers with engaging content focused on the art and craft of spinning. In addition, the publisher of PLY has started a new magazine about weaving: WEFT Magazine.
Job description: We are seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Editorial Assistant to support our publishing team for PLY (and WEFT at a future date). This part-time role is perfect for someone passionate about organization and fiber arts. As an Editorial Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the production of our magazine, ensuring that the publication process runs smoothly.
Key responsibilities:
- Send out contracts for contributors for each issue
- Gather newsletter content and format in MailChimp
- Send out monthly newsletters plus subscription reminders
- Collect Tip Jar responses and format into Word document
- Update websites with provided content
- Post content to social media
- Add knitting and crochet pattern information to Ravelry
- Other tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple tasks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with content management systems
- Proficiency in updating WordPress website
- Proficiency in using MailChimp (or similar email delivery system)
- Proficiency in posting on social media platforms
- Proficiency in Microsoft Teams and Outlook preferred (or willingness to learn)
- Previous experience in a similar role (such as a virtual assistant) is a plus
Expected hours and compensation:
- Average of 20 hours per month
- $400 per month
